A popular farmer's market is kicking off its 2024 season and tomorrow is a special day for Star Wars fans. Wherever you're going, it'll be best to have an umbrella ready as Weatherhood forecast shows the dry weather is expected to come to an end this weekend.

1. Enjoy live music and help a church raise funds for organ repairs

The Richmond Presbyterian Church is holding a fundraiser tonight to raise money to repair its 70-year-old organ and purchase chimes for its new chimes choir. Attendees will get to enjoy live music performances and a bake sale and bid for a wide selection of prizes in a silent auction. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go to the repairs and chimes purchase.

2. Celebrate May 4 at a Star Wars-themed concert

Richmond Chorus and Orchestra Association (ROCA) is holding a Star Wars-themed concert on May 4, which will also feature Brahms' Violin Concerto performed by soloist Isabel Lago alongside the orchestra. The community partner for the concert is Chimo Community Services.

3. Hunt for photography treasures and meet fellow enthusiasts at an annual camera show

The Richmond Camera Show, also known as Western Canada's second-largest camera show, is returning on Saturday. Hundreds of photographers and filmmakers will be gathering at the South Arm United Church, where there will be vendors selling all formats of film gear, cameras, lenses and accessories as well as a consignment table and appraisals. Tickets at the door, cash only.

4. Find your next read at a Free Comic Book Day event

Richmond Public Library is participating in Free Comic Book Day for the first time and community members will get to stop by local public libraries for a chance to receive a free comic book. Supplies are limited and the event is first-come, first-serve.

5. Support local vendors at a popular farmers market

The first Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market of the 2024 season is taking place on Sunday and will feature a wide selection of local vendors. The annual market will run twice a month from May until September.

Date and time: May 3 to 5, 2024 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

6. Celebrate Japanese Children's Day at Britannia Shipyards

May 5 is Children's Day in Japan, a national holiday celebrating happiness and well-being for children. The Britannia Heritage Shipyards is holding a free craft event throughout the weekend where children can make "kabuto" (samurai) helmets out of origami at the Murakami House.

7. Meet fellow car enthusiasts at a Porsche car meet

Porsche Centre Richmond's 1939 Drive Club is holding its free cars & coffee car meet of the 2024 season on Sunday. Admission is free and a spot can be reserved online.
