Four B.C. men facing clam, oyster fishery charges

Four B.C. fishermen are facing multiple fishery charges in connection with 2023 allegations from activities in Deep Bay on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Ya Chung Lao, Xiaohua Liu, Yilai Zhu and Chun Shui Tu are all charged with unlawfully possessing clams and oysters.

The case was before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Nancy Adams April 22 on the charges related to events on Aug. 26, 2023.

Lao is charged with obstructing or hindering a fishery officer in his duty.

Liu and Lao are charged with making false or misleading statements to a fishery officer.

Tu and Zhu are charged with fishing without a licence.

The case has been adjourned to May 23.
