Richmond cafes join cherry blossom-inspired food festival

The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Food Festival is to begin next week.

Two Richmond cafes are joining a cherry blossom-inspired food festival starting next week.

The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Food Festival, organized by Noms Magazine, is kicking off on March 29 and running until April 28 throughout Metro Vancouver.

Richmond's Matcha Cafe Maiko and Sunny M are among the list of restaurants and cafes taking part in the festival.

Matcha Cafe Maiko announced they are offering a "hanami dango" rice ball dessert topping for their classic matcha soft serve to celebrate the arrival of spring.

They also have a limited order of sakura cake boxes that are being offered during weekends, starting Friday after 5:30 p.m. for the duration of the festival.

Meanwhile, Sunny M will have a pink matcha milk cap drink from March 29 to April 12 and a second cherry blossom-themed item, yet to be revealed, from April 13 to 28.

There will also be a "passport activity" for visitors. They can collect stickers by purchasing items and get entered for a chance to win prizes.

More than 10 restaurants and cafes are taking part in the festival including:

  • Boketto Tea Bar
  • Broye Cafe and Bakery
  • Daigyo
  • Elephant Garden Creamery
  • Ki Cafe
  • Jungle Room
  • Takenaka
  • Whisk Matcha Cafe
  • Vancouver Aquarium
