A Richmond non-profit is holding a neighbourhood cleanup event on Saturday in celebration of Earth Day.

Earth Week events in Richmond are wrapping up, and a non-profit is inviting Richmondites to help clean the streets near Richmond's food district near Lansdowne Centre.

Dialogue Richmond is holding a neighbourhood garbage cleanup on Saturday, April 27, on the western section of Alexandra Road, which was adopted by the non-profit through the city's Adopt-A-Street program.

The event is part of its annual Clean Neighbourhood Project, which challenges community members to clean up garbage around their neighbourhoods, either on their own or at Saturday's event, and share it on social media.

Now in its third year, the challenge is running between April 21 and 27 and prizes valued at more than $2,700 in total are up for grabs in a random prize draw. The prizes, donated by local businesses and organizations, include discount vouchers and gift cards, gym memberships and swag bags.

To participate in the prize draw, community members are asked to share their act of cleaning up garbage around their neighbourhood on their Instagram posts or stories, tag @dialoguermd and use the hashtag #OurCleanNeighbourhood.

Private accounts are asked to take a screenshot of their post or story and send it to Dialogue Richmond via direct messaging.

Volunteers will meet at KPU Richmond tomorrow at 8771 Lansdowne Road in the north parking lot. Complimentary parking will be provided on the day of the event.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and sign-ups are available online. Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather and take a break when needed.
