Richmond Centre is the No. 12 most profitable mall in Canada, according to a Canadian Shopping Centre study.
The mall, which is currently undergoing renovations to improve the storefronts and traffic flow, generated $937 in sales per square foot in the year ended June 2017.
By comparison, Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre was the most productive, racking up $1,653 in sales per square foot.
“What was remarkable was that despite reports that there is a retail apocalypse, which there certainly isn’t, it appears that top shopping centres continue to thrive,” said Craig Patterson, who authored the study.
Richmond previously ranked 13th with $928/square foot in 2016 and $928/square foot in 2015.
Six other B.C. malls ranked in the top 30, including:
- Oakridge Shopping Centre, ranked No. 2 ($1,531)
- CF Pacific Centre, ranked No. 3 ($1,528)
- Metropolis at Metrotown, ranked No. 8 ($1,031)
- Guildford Town Centre, ranked No. 18 ($875)
- Park Royal Shopping Centre, ranked No. 19 ($874)
- Coquitlam Centre, ranked No. 22 ($823)
