Dear Editor,
One of the hallmarks of a government with integrity is its willingness to fulfill campaign promises.
Campaign promise fulfillment shows constituents that their politicians are truthful and in touch with what is reasonable and actionable. This last election cycle one promise struck a chord with many Richmond voters: the commitment to building a new acute care tower at Richmond Hospital.
Our community agrees that we are in dire need of a new hospital. The old acute care tower is 50 years old, too small for our current population, far short of meeting modern medical standards, and will likely collapse in only a moderate earthquake.
In 2005 and 2011 reports, these issues were raised, but the former provincial government never approved Richmond for a replacement acute care tower. In the meantime, patients and medical staff are at risk from a deteriorating, substandard building.
We need our new BC NDP government to make good on their commitment to build a new acute care tower at Richmond Hospital, and include it in the 2018 provincial budget. We deserve to have our basic health care needs met and campaign promises fulfilled.
Add your voice and let our provincial politicians know that Richmondites deserve a new acute care tower at Richmond Hospital. Sign our petition at: Change.org/p/Petitioning-The-Provincial-Government-of-British-Columbia-Replace-The-Acute-Care-Tower-At-Richmond-Hospital
