Dear Editor,
On the matter of policing in Richmond, the people have told city hall what they want in policing and city hall is disappointed.
The RCMP do fine work and we have one of the lowest crime rates in the region; how better to measure the effectiveness of police.
Now, city hall wants to try regional police.
They tried that in Quebec in the 1990s and it did not end well. Communities similar to Richmond saw their resources being diverted. More recently, Esquimalt amalgamated with Victoria Police and Esquimalt saw the same thing happen to them. Time to move ahead. City hall needs to build a new relationship with the RCMP, they need to give them the resources that they have already asked for. We have an effective police force and if we change now, we put that at risk, along with our safety.
