The Richmond Devils will step aside from their outstanding start to the South Coast Women's Hockey League to host Team China on Tuesday night at the Richmond Ice Centre.
The Chinese national team is in the midst of week-long visit to Vancouver as part of preparation for hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. A five-game schedule for the world’s 15th ranked team begins Monday night against UBC. The Devils then take on China on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. The tour concludes with games against provincial champion South Fraser TNT on Thursday, the SCWHL Selects on Saturday at Minoru Arena (6:30 p.m.) and the Pacific Steelers.
Under head coach Tony Cheema, the Devils are the lone remaining unbeaten team in the SCWHL — improving to 4-0-0 Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over the Trinity Western University Titans at the RIC. The hosts broke a 2-2 deadlock on third period goals by Jane Gregory-Herbold, Deanna Mohr and Nicole Lim.
Former Wayne State University standout and first-year Devil Lindsay DiPietro added two goals and one assist. Rookie goaltender Harmony Sander turned aside 13 of 15 shots for the win.
