Bryce Mason and the McMath Wildcats will open play Wednesday night against MEI at the B.C. 3A Boys Basketball Championships.

The McMath Wildcats will have to go through the teeth of the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland zones if they hope to make a deep run at this week’s B.C. 3A Boys Basketball Championships at the Langley Events Centre.

On the heels of their runner-up finish at the Lower Mainland Tournament, the Richmond champions have been seeded fifth in the 16-team draw and will take on No. 12 MEI Eagles of Abbotsford on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. A victory would set-up a potential quarter-final match-up on Thursday with Fraser Valley champion and No. 4 seed North Delta. The Huskies trimmed McMath 71-70 in consolation play at the Burnaby South tournament back in September.

Also on the Wildcats side of the draw are the top ranked Byrne Creek Bulldogs. The Lower Mainland champs open against Caledonia and would face Tupper or Clayton Heights in the quarter-finals.

Making their first provincials appearance since 2003, the Richmond Colts have been seeded 14th and will take on No. 3 Argyle at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colts gave the Howe Sound champs all they could handle at the Byrne Creek tourney back in January, losing 87-81.

Meanwhile, the RC Palmer Griffins will open the B.C. 2A Championships Wednesday at the LEC with a 5:15 p.m. tip-off against Charles Hays. The Griffins have been seeded No. 13 after placing third at the Lower Mainland Championships. Their Prince Rupert opponent is the No. 4 seed.
