Party: Conservative Party of BC

Occupation: News Anchor and Talk Show Host (resigned prior to nomination)

Where do you live (city)? Richmond

Top priorities for Richmond

Most constituents I've spoken with identified the economy, crime, and drugs as top priorities for Richmond. They're deeply concerned about the weakening economy, record-high debt and deficit, rising crime rates, and the growing issue of drugs and addiction in our community.

Past achievements

I grew up in Richmond, was named Most Valuable Player on my high school tennis team, and joined the BC National Team. I translated the Volunteer Help Book for Richmond Hospital and contributed to two advisory committees for the City of Richmond. As a news anchor and talk show host, I gained expertise in holding government accountable, analyzing policies, and amplifying citizens' voices to politicians.

Yes/no questionnaire (candidate can give 150-word answer to three questions):

1. Do you support a provincial carbon tax? NO

2. Do you support Bill 44/47 to increase density in residential areas and near rapid transit? NO

3. Are you committed to keeping SOGI policies in B.C.’s education system? NO

4. Do you support Truth and Reconciliation with B.C.’s Indigenous population? YES

5. Do you support lower taxes for B.C. businesses? YES

6. Should the provincial government do more protect businesses from vandalism and other crimes?

YES, many business owners have told me they are facing increased theft, with windows being smashed and property damaged regularly. These crimes not only cause financial strain due to repair costs but also lead to lost revenue as customers feel unsafe. Small businesses, in particular, are struggling to stay afloat under these conditions. The government must step in with stronger measures, such as increased police presence and support for security improvements, to ensure our businesses are protected and can continue contributing to the local economy.

7. Do you think the province should lobby the federal government for bail reform? YES

8. Do you support privatization of health care in B.C.? NO

9. Should health-care workers who lost their jobs for not being vaccinated be compensated? YES

10. Do you support a safe supply of drugs for people with a severe substance-use disorder? NO

11. Do you support a safe drug injection/consumption site in Richmond? NO

12. Do you believe in mandatory (involuntary) care for people with a severe substance-use disorder? YES

13. Do you think there should be more supportive housing in Richmond?

Only if it is managed and monitored strictly to prevent illegal activities. Many residents are concerned that without proper oversight, these establishments could become hubs for drug use and other criminal activities. We need quick, strict policies to ensure these facilities serve their intended purpose.

14. Should the province be building more subsidized housing to combat the housing crisis? YES

15. Should the market be allowed to determine rents? NO

16. Do you support reverting to a bridge plan to replace the George Massey Tunnel?

The George Massey Tunnel replacement project has been delayed for years and gone over budget, causing thousands of commuters to endure over an hour of congestion each way. This not only robs people of time with their families and friends but also increases environmental harm due to idling vehicles. To address these issues, any plan that can expedite the crossing’s completion is worth considering. Additionally, surrounding areas need updated infrastructure to handle the increased traffic flow, ensuring long-term relief for the community. Prioritizing efficiency and reducing congestion is essential for both commuters and the environment.

**Editor's note: The News will be publishing profiles of candidates who submitted them before our deadline. They will be published between Monday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
