Steveston Village’s fledgling brewery scene is set to grow a little more this spring with the opening of a new tasting room.
Five Roads Brewing – which has its sole brewery and tasting room in Langley – is currently renovating the old Porthole wine bar on No. 1 Road, close to Bayview Street, which closed last August.
Aaron Fourt, one of the three co-owners, said they are hoping to open up the 35-seater to the public in late March or early April.
Fourt told the Richmond News on Thursday that they are excited about getting on tap as many of the 12 beers they currently have flowing at their home base in the Willowbrook neighbourhood in north Langley, which opened up in April 2019.
“We’re still sorting out permits and licensing approvals,” said Fourt.
“We’ve had several phone calls already about it and there’s been people peering in the windows to see what’s going on.
“We’re going to feature as many beers as we can from our brewery, it depends how many we can get in there.
“We have something for everyone I think; kind of hoppy beers, sours, Belgian triples and everything in between. As well as a food menu.”
Fourt, a real estate developer to trade, said the intention is to open up some patio space in the current parking lot, just as The Porthole tried to do before it closed last summer.
He explained that he and his business partners had been looking for some time to share their beers in one of their home communities; Fourt lives in Burnaby, while the others live in White Rock and Richmond.
“My office is in Richmond so I’ve always been keeping an eye out; this one popped out,” he said.
“The more we looked at it the more we thought this was the right place to share our beers.”
Fourt said Five Roads is keen to work with the current craft brewers and local bars in Steveston to “keep the whole craft brewery scene growing.”
