Police took to social media to find the owners of this golden retriever.

A lost dog has been reunited with its owners thanks to the help of a stranger and police.

On Feb. 17 at 3 p.m., a person found the dog by itself near the 400-block of 11th Street and contacted police officers in New Westminster.

The New Westminster Police Department shared a photograph of the golden retriever on social media hoping to find the owner.

The dog, described as a "senior," was brought into the care of New Westminster Animal Service on Monday evening. By Tuesday morning, a staff member confirmed with Glacier Media that the owners came forward.

Media relations officer Sgt. Andrew Leaver said the New Westminster Police Department is happy the dog has been reunited with the owner.

“Anytime we can reunite a man's best friend with their owner is a good day,” said Leaver.

The dog did not have any tattoos, tags or electronic chips.

“We would encourage people to use dog tags, chips as well as tattoos to help identify their dogs or their pets, should this happen in the future,” he said.
