E-Comm 911 call takers and dispatchers
When Flight 204 crashed onto Russ Baker Way on Oct. 27, it generated 194 calls to E-Comm 911's consolidated communications centre in less than 20 minutes. A coordinated response led by Richmond Fire-Rescue, Richmond RCMP and BC Ambulance Service, with the support of E-Comm dispatchers and call-takers followed.
E-Comm's team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and professionalism throughout the event as they handled an influx of 911 calls and an increased volume of traffic on E-Comm's Wide-Area Radio Network.
Richmond firefighters were among the witnesses who reported the crash so they brought E-Comm fire dispatch up to speed on what was happening on the ground.
By 8 p.m., E-Comm had dispatched 76 police officers to the crash site. Combined efforts between E-Comm, fire, police and ambulance partners, and the Good Samaritans who stepped in, all contributed to the seven passengers onboard surviving the wreckage.
