Kelowna’s Jerome Blake is coming home with a gold medal from the Paris Olympics.

Blake and his teammates stunned the crowd to win the men’s 4x100m relay at the Stade de France. The heavily favoured Americans were disqualified after botching a handoff.

Andre de Grasse added to his Olympic medal total as well, running the anchor leg as Canada posted a time of 37.50 seconds. South Africa captured silver, while Great Britain grabbed the bronze medal.

Blake, 28, ran the second leg of the relay, making a smooth handover to Brendon Rodney. Aaron Brown was the lead-off runner for Canada.

This is the third medal in a row for the relay team. Canada won silver at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Rio 2016. It’s Canada's fifth olympic medal all time in the discipline.

Canada now has 23 medals at Paris 2024, including seven gold, five silver and 11 bronze.
