Man hospitalized after being attacked by stranger in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP say investigators would like to hear from any witnesses they have not yet spoken to or anyone with dashcam video from 10:15-10:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of the incident.

Nanaimo RCMP say a man was hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday after he was attacked by a stranger.

Police said the incident happened about 10:30 a.m. in the 100-block of Nicol Street just south of Port Place when the victim, who was sitting on the sidewalk, was approached by a man he didn’t know and attacked.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital.

The suspect ran off in the direction of downtown and police were unable to locate him.

He was wearing dark clothing, police said.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien said investigators would like to hear from any witnesses they have not yet spoken to or anyone with dashcam video from 10:15-10:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of the incident.
