An accident at the intersection of Gilbert Road and Elmbridge Way is causing a traffic jam in the northbound lane of Gilbert Road.

Northbound traffic on Gilbert Road was backed up to Richmond Hospital due to a crash at the intersection outside Rona on Elmbridge Way.

In a photo submitted by Richmond News reader Arthur Leung, airbags appeared to have been deployed in a blue vehicle parked on the side of the road. Damage can also be seen on the right of its front bumper.

Emergency crews were on scene.

A grey Honda Civic driving north on Gilbert Road had collided with the passenger side of a black Caravan making a left turn, Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O'Malley told the News.

"Both vehicles were towed," she added.

According to BCEHS public information officer Rachelle Brown, BCEHS received a call about the accident at 11:20 a.m. and two ambulances responded to the scene.

"Paramedics provided care and assessment to one patient who did not require hospital transport," Brown added.
