A driver was recently ticketed for excessive speed while driving someone else's car during rush hour.
The incident took place at 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 15 near Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in the 5000 block of Inglis Drive, Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O'Malley told the Richmond News.
The driver was stopped after an officer saw the car allegedly travelling at 108 kilometres per hour in a 50 km/h zone.
"The officer also discovered the vehicle was not being operated by the registered owner but belonged to a customer of the driver​," said O'Malley.
The driver was slapped with a ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
According to RoadSafetyBC's website, those exceeding speed limits by more than 40 kilometres per hour are fined $368 and will receive three penalty points, while those who exceed the limit by more than 60 kilometres per hour will have to pay $483 and have three points added to their driving record.
O'Malley told the News police has seen an increase in excessive speeding tickets being issued.
"Recognizing this, Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit have been conducting targeted operations throughout Richmond," she said.
