A pedestrian was struck at a marked crosswalk early Tuesday morning, closing the southbound off-ramp from Highway 99 to Steveston Highway.

The ramp remains closed as Richmond RCMP investigate the incident that happened around 6:15 a.m.

RCMP are looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage to help them with their investigation.

Frontine RCMP officers received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the Steveston Highway off-ramp from Highway 99.

The pedestrian was crossing at a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the vehicle, and rushed to a local-area hospital with serious injuries, RCMP explained.

The driver remained on scene and has been cooperative, they added.

“Drivers are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and anticipate pedestrians crossing at crosswalks,” said Cpl. Kenneth Lau. “Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with the driver and ensure they acknowledge your intent to cross.”

Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes due to the road closure around the area of Steveston Hwy and Hwy 99 during the morning rush hour.

Richmond RCMP CCIT is seeking witnesses or dash camera footage of the incident.
