No flashing signs, no inflatable and no rooftop signs - these are just some of rules governing election signs in Richmond.
Election signs are popping up around the city as the Oct. 21 election date approaches, but there are strict rules about where they can be placed and how big they can be.
Signs can't be bigger than three metres squared in size, can't be mounted higher than three metres high and can be placed on a container or vehicle.
They are also not allowed on city-owned highways and right-of-ways, on boulevards (unless it's a private property and then with permission), medians or parks and need to be one metre from a fire hydrant.
Election signs also shouldn't obstruct traffic lights and shouldn't pose a hazard to pedestrians, cycles or vehicle.

The signs also shouldn't be unsightly, according to city bylaws.
All elections signs need to be removed seven days after the election.
