Richmond's newest Asian fusion restaurant with seats to cater to more than 200 people is opening next week.

House of Dawn is the latest "affordable, fine-dining" restaurant and is opening at Richport Town Centre near No. 3 and Ackroyd roads on Nov. 4.

The 10,000 square feet restaurant features several dining areas including a bar, a cocktail lounge, a front dining room, a back dining room and two private rooms and sits 248 guests.

House of Dawn's soft-opening menu has a list of 35 dishes from starters to desserts including chilli mirin mussels, cherry foie gras mousse with brioche toast, grilled ribeye with miso sauce, smoked soy glazed sablefish, buddha soba noodle bowl and jasmine panna cotta.

Its bar also has a 24-item alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink menu.

The restaurant is founded by Danny Deng, a chef of almost 13 years, and his business partner Ivan Li.

The name House of Dawn is inspired by the first light of day, symbolizing a “new concept, new generation,” while paying homage to old Shanghai’s “golden era,” according to Deng.

He described the restaurant as a “gong guan,” a Chinese word for a place where people gather to eat and socialize.

“It’s an upscale environment for people to not just have food or dinner, but a place for people to hang out to talk to each other like a social lounge,” said Deng.

Deng told the Richmond News that his vision is to blend together the environment of a comfortable lounge with food inspired by Asian flavours.

"Our goal with House of Dawn is to introduce a new kind of dining experience to Richmond -- one that embraces the vibrancy of Asian cuisine, and elevates it with unexpected flavours and presentations," said Deng.

"We've created a space that feels both familiar and new, and we want our guests to feel that they are part of something special, every time they visit."

House of Dawn is at 130-8171 Ackroyd Rd. and is open Monday through Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m.
