Steveston's Buck & Ear pub has announced its official last day after 77 years of operation in the city.

The long-time hub for the community posted on social media that its "final countdown" has begun, with Sunday, May 4, being its last day.

While it is a sad goodbye, Buck & Ear said they are "not going quietly" as month-long events of celebrations will take place, according to the business' Facebook post.

Starting April 1, the pub is hosting a daily event from trivia and jam nights to late-night DJ parties on weekends.

"We’re beyond grateful to have been part of your stories. Let’s make history one last time."

Joseph Richard Group, which owns the Buck & Ear, said in a previous press release that the decision to close the pub "was not made lightly."

Once closed, the pub space will be used to create extra hotel rooms or what they are calling "boutique suites."

The Steveston Café and Hotel will continue operating, and the owner is considering adding a dinner menu.

The Steveston Hotel, formerly known as the Sockeye Hotel, was built in 1894. The additional section containing the pub was built in 1948.

Joseph Richard Group filed for creditor protection in 2023.
