Two bubble tea shops close in Richmond plaza

New bubble tea and ice cream store prepares to join Richmond's bubble tea hub

Two bubble tea stores in the same Richmond plaza have closed, but two new stores are expected to open soon.

Union Square Shopping Centre, dubbed the bubble tea hub of Richmond for its number of tea stores, recently saw the closure of Yi Fang and Machi Machi.

Yi Fang, famous for its fruit tea, officially closed its last Canadian location in Richmond on Oct. 1.

In its place, Sweet7 is opening its second North American location following the opening of its first store on Vancouver's Robson Street earlier this year.

This bubble tea brand started in China in 2006 and features fruit teas and soft-serve ice cream.

Sweet7's menu includes mango pomelo sago drinks, fresh taro milk tea with mochi balls, strawberry iced tea and even fruit slush. Drinks are also offered in one-litre sizes.

The soft-serve ice cream menu includes flavours such as a signature vanilla and coconut cone, mango pomelo sago sundae and brown sugar pearl sundae.

Meanwhile, Machi Machi's closure in the plaza means the end of the franchise in B.C.

It is unclear what is taking over the bubble tea shop's location, but a sign written with a "new store coming soon" has been posted on the door.
