One of Vancouver's trailblazing high-end Japanese restaurants is making the leap across the Fraser to set up a second location in Richmond.
Michelin Guide-recommended Miku will bring its aburi sushi and elegant dining experience to a new outpost located at the River Rock Casino Resort.
Miku debuted in downtown Vancouver in 2008 before branching out to include a Toronto restaurant location.
The popular Japanese restaurant is a sibling under the Aburi Restaurants Canada banner to Vancouver's Minami, Wa-Bagel, and Aburi Market, and Toronto's Aburi Hana.
Miku joining star-powered new steakhouse
The addition of a Richmond location fits with customer demand and reflects a further enhancement to River Rock's already exciting dining options, which now includes the just-opened sole Canadian branch of Gordon Ramsay Steak.
“We have many loyal guests who live in Richmond and with its proximity to the Vancouver International Airport, River Rock is an ideal setting for our second Miku location in Metro Vancouver,” said Seigo Nakamura, Founder and CEO, Aburi Restaurants Canada, in a media release.
Miku is well-known for its elegant and creative approach to Japanese dining, including its beautiful sushi selections, lunch and dinner sets, and desserts. However, it may be best known for making "aburi oshi sushi" part of the ubiquitous Canadian sushi dining experience.
Restaurant known for 'exceptional quality and artistry'
Aburi oshi sushi means "torched" (aburi) and "pressed" (oshi), melding two preparations in one special dish. Nakamura introduced the dynamic duo to Vancouver with Miku, which was originally located at 1055 W Hastings St. Ultimately, Miku made the move to its current location at the foot of Granville Street overlooking the inlet with its views of Canada Place and the North Shore.
Last summer, Miku celebrated serving its one-millionth order of the iconic dish.
“Anyone who has dined at Miku understands the exceptional quality and artistry behind their cuisine. Miku is a fantastic addition to our dynamic entertainment destination and perfectly complements our enhanced offerings, " added Wayne Odegard, Regional VP of River Rock Casino Resort, in the announcement.
Miku at River Rock Casino Resort (8811 River Rd, Richmond) is expected to open this summer.
