Do you want to make sure your delivery truck isn't taken out of service for safety violations? Burnaby RCMP can help.
The detachment is hosting a pair of free information sessions next week aimed at drivers and companies operating commercial vehicles, such as box trucks, that can be driven with a Class 5 licence (not the big transport vehicles and semi trucks that require a Class 1 licence).
The sessions will focus on pre-trip inspections, the Commercial Transport Act, truck routes, cargo securement, transporting live loads, vehicle defects, weight regulations and more, with the goal of refreshing commercial vehicle operators and companies on important safety information meant to keep all road users safe.
Representatives from Burnaby RCMP, Delta Police, BC Highway Patrol and WorkSafeBC will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
"We know many drivers and companies are doing their best to operate their commercial vehicles safely but may have questions we can help answer," said Const. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP's designated commercial vehicle inspector.
He said the education initiative is a new approach meant to supplement the ongoing work of the Lower Mainland commercial vehicle enforcement group, which generally focuses on enforcement.
The detachment hosted a "test" information session in November for managers at 4Refuel, a mobile refuelling company, according to Connolly.
They liked it so much, they invited Burnaby RCMP to present the information to the company's entire western branch — 70 drivers plus managerial staff — in January, he said.
The two public sessions this month are scheduled for Monday, March 24 at 9 a.m. or 5 p.m. at the Burnaby RCMP detachment, at 6355 Deer Lake Ave.
