A man who fled into a forest after allegedly shooting a person in Chilliwack has been arrested.

Police responded to a property on Chilliwack Lake Road just before 6 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a disturbance.

Once on scene, Chilliwack RCMP officers found a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound on his leg. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police officers from Chilliwack RCMP, the Lower Mainland’s Emergency Response Team and the Integrated Police Dog Services started searching for the suspect and Chilliwack Lake Road was closed.

At 8:30 p.m. that same night, police found the suspect and seized multiple firearms from the property.

Eric Myren, 48, was arrested and remains in custody. Police say the Chilliwack man is facing charges of aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm with intent.

The man who was shot remains in hospital and is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Sgt. Krista Vrolyk with Chilliwack RCMP says it is important to note that there is no indication that this event has any links to any ongoing gang conflicts.

“Police would like to thank the public, particularly the neighbours, for their patience while we worked to bring this high-risk situation to a safe conclusion,” says Vrolyk.

Investigators believe the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
