Early morning crash in Chilliwack closes Highway 1 in both directions

A transport-truck can be seen on its side across Highway 1

A serious crash involving a transport truck has closed a busy stretch of B.C. highway in both directions.

Drive BC says the crash happened just east of Annis Road in Chilliwack before 6 a.m. on Nov. 8.

Videos and photographs taken from the scene show a transport truck on its side on both sides of the highway.

BC Emergency Health Services was called at 5:49 a.m. for a motor vehicle incident on Highway 1, near Annis Road in Chilliwack.

Two ambulances with primary care paramedics responded to the scene.

"There were no patients requiring hospital transport," says a spokesperson with BC EHS.

Drive BC said via the X social media platform Friday morning that the highway is closed for six kilometres between Annis Road and Exit 135.

A detour has been set up and the next update from Drive BC is expected at noon Friday. Motorists should use alternate routes.
