B.C.'s homicide squad is investigating a fatal stabbing in Newton on July 23, 2024.

A physical fight between two people in Surrey has ended in a homicide.

On Tuesday night, just before midnight, police were called to a complaint of a fight in the 6000-block of King George Boulevard in Newton.

"Early indications are that the two individuals engaged in an altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed,” says Sgt. Tyner Gillies.

Surrey RCMP found a man suffering stab wounds. He died at the scene.

It’s not clear if the two individuals knew each other before the fight or what motivated it.

Police are searching for the suspect and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the fatal stabbing.

"Although the investigation is in its infancy, investigators believe this was an isolated incident between two individuals," says Sgt. Tammy Lobb.

The suspect is described as a white man, six-foot-tall, clean shaven with short sandy blond hair.

Officers were on the scene early into the morning on Wednesday. An area near a bus stop shelter was taped off with police evidence tape.

Witnesses or anyone who has information, including video footage, are asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email [email protected].
