Police working to identify driver in fatal B.C. crash

A section of 80th Avenue is closed with no anticipated reopening time as the investigation is taking place.

A person is dead after an early morning single-vehicle collision in Langley on Wednesday.

Police have not been able to identify the driver who died at the scene.

Investigators believe the driver struck a road sign with their SUV and continued to travel east on 80 Avenue to a second collision scene.

A heavily damaged SUV was discovered in the 19800-block of 80 Avenue at 5 a.m. by Langley RCMP officers.

Cpl. Craig van Herk says the driver lost control of their SUV and struck a tree.

"The subsequent collision resulted in the driver being ejected and the SUV sustaining significant damage leaving a noticeable debris field across the entire roadway,” says van Herk.

Vehicle parts from the Hyundai Santa Cruz were strewn across the road and the vehicle came to a stop just off the road.

The two scenes are less than 1.5 kilometres apart.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the Langley RCMP Serious Crime Section remain on the scene investigating as of Wednesday afternoon.

The ICARS unit is responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death between Pemberton and Boston Bar.

Police are looking to speak with witnesses and are asking anyone who has dash camera footage from the area to contact Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
