Police have confirmed the three stabbings in downtown Vancouver on Monday night.

Three people were stabbed in Vancouver on Monday night and police believe they were all random attacks.

A heavy police presence was seen in the downtown core just after 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

Vancouver police say a suspect is in custody and three people are recovering.

The first stabbing occurred at 9:40 p.m. at Granville Street, near Nelson Street. Police say a 33-year-old man was stabbed in the back.

Minutes later, police responded to a second 911 call near Granville and Davie streets. A 41-year-old man had been stabbed.

A third stabbing took place at 9:52 p.m., near Nelson and Granville streets where a 32-year-old man was stabbed.

"A suspect was arrested downtown and is currently in custody," says Sgt. Steve Addison with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Police say the victims did not know each other or the suspect.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim says the recent tragic events are deeply unsettling.

"My heartfelt thoughts are with the victims and their families during this extremely challenging time,” says Sim in a statement.

“The safety and well-being of every Vancouverite is not just a priority — it’s our commitment. Vancouver is a city where everyone deserves to feel safe, whether they live, work, or play here.”

Sim was also referring to the two women who were found dead in English Bay.

“The Vancouver Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and the suspect involved in the stabbings was quickly arrested,” he says.

"We are working closely with the VPD to take every necessary step to enhance public safety and prevent such incidents in the future.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
