Hugh McNicoll won $1 million on a recent Lotto 6/49 draw. The Vancouver resident is planning a big vacation.

A Vancouver man thought the ticket checker he was using was busted before realizing he'd actually won $1 million.

Hugh McNicoll had a ticket to check from the July 10 Lotto6/49 draw while he was out earlier this month, but when he tried to check it something seemed to be wrong.

“I was at Shoppers Drug Mart and thought the machine was broken,” McNicoll said in a BCLC press release.

McNicholl said he had to keep checking it on the machine before he downloaded the lottery's app to try there.

It was via the app the win became apparent.

He describes the win as “shocking, then exciting and then fun!”

McNicoll has big plans for a vacation and a new car with the money, but his first spend was on flowers for his wife.

He bought his ticket in Delta at a Town Pantry/Chevron gas station on Ladner Trunk Road.
