Metro Vancouver: Here is why you might see a haze in the air this weekend

The weather will be hot but conditions may be hazy.

The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes temperatures several degrees above the seasonal average but locals may notice some smog.

Metro Vancouver has not issued an air quality advisory but notes that active wildfires south of the border in Washington and Oregon are producing smoke.

Light winds blew smoke into the Lower Mainland early Friday, Sept. 6, and it is expected to remain in the area through the weekend.

Metro Vancouver is monitoring conditions because "wildfire and smoke behaviour can change quickly."

The air quality map shows some parts of the region have poorer conditions than others (see slide two).

Ground-level ozone (smog) may increase due to local emissions and weather conditions.

V.I.A.'s Hastings-Sunrise Weatherhood station forecasts bright sunshine with a high of 27 C and a low of 16 C for Friday. The warm weather is expected to continue through Saturday, with a high of 28 C and a low of 16 C in that Vancouver neighbourhood. However, a few clouds may start to roll in in the evening.

Sunday's forecast also includes temperatures a few degrees above the seasonal average (20 C), with a high of 25 C expected during the day in the Hastings-Sunrise area.

The seasonal temperature is based on Environment Canada's historical climate data.
