6 things to do in Richmond this weekend

Richmond RCMP is once again hosting its stuff the cruiser toy drive for the Richmond Christmas Fund.

The sun is expected to shine this weekend, and many fun activities await Richmondites. From the annual RCMP toy drive to concerts and sports tournaments, you're bound to find something that interests you.

1. Richmond Concert Band performs at Peace Mennonite Church

The Richmond Community Concert Band is back after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The long-awaited fall concert will also be featuring special guests — the Richmond High Vocal Jazz Choir. Admission is by donation.

Date and time: Friday, Nov. 18, 2022 (7:30 p.m.)

Place: Peace Mennonite Church, 11571 Daniels Rd.

2. Annual RCMP Toy Drive

The annual RCMP Toy Drive is returning for the eighth year and the public is encouraged to pop by Lansdowne Centre and donate new toys to stuff the RCMP cruiser. Fun activities on the day include a dunk tank, mini donuts, the Coca-Cola Christmas truck and a caricature artist. 

Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 (8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the dunking will start at 10 a.m.)

Place: Lansdowne Centre parking lot

3. Robots and Islamic art at the Brighouse library

On Saturday, 20 students will be competing by building and programming their Lego robots to compete in sports-inspired coding challenges. The RoboSports competition welcomes spectators of all ages and live demos and activities will be available.

Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

On Sunday, the library will be holding a celebration of Islamic art through the Islamic Art Experience. The event will feature visual and performing Islamic art such as an exhibition on the community art walls and live traditional Middle Eastern dance.

Date and time: Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 (12 to 4 p.m.)

Place: Brighouse Library, 100-7700 Minoru Gate

4. Get crafty at holiday craft fairs and the potters club sale

Four craft fairs will be held this weekend: the Handwoven craft fair, Steveston United Church Christmas Bazaar, South Arm Community Centre Craft Fair and ANAF Unit 284 Christmas Craft Fair. For more information, check out our local craft fair listing.

The Richmond Potters Club will also be holding its Christmas sale from Friday to Sunday at the Richmond Arts Centre.

5. Watch some of the world's best wheelchair curlers at the 2022 Canadian Open

The 14th Annual International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel - 2022 Canadian Open is being held this week at the Richmond Curling Club. The event was organized by the Richmond Centre for Disability and features some of the world's best wheelchair curlers.

Date: Nov. 16 to 20, 2022.

6. Donate to the annual blanket drive at Canada Line stations

If you have socks, scarves, mittens, toques and blankets to spare, you might want to donate to Blanket BC Society's "Drive on the Line" campaign this weekend. All donated items will be distributed to shelter programs and organizations.
