This month, Steveston Museum and Post Office will turn into a pop-up gallery after two B.C. artists moved into town this year.
Starting this week, lifelong artist and urban designer Frank Ducote and his partner Susan Taylor will share a variety of their artwork at Steveston Museum with the community.
"We love Steveston and we want to share our love of this community with others via art," said Ducote, who just moved to Steveston in June of this year.
For Ducote, he and Taylor are like "pioneers" enriching the local arts scene by setting up a pop gallery in Steveston - thanks to their long-time friend, Bob Ransford, another Richmondite who took them on a tour of Steveston and made them fall in love with the village.
Ducote told the Richmond News that he and Taylor run a home-based gallery on Pender Island for the past 22 years before settling down in Steveston. Taylor's work is all about the ocean and nature, while Ducote’s is centered on villages and the culture and history behind the town.
In October, the Richmond News reported how the city plans to “re-imagine the museum and post office operations” by introducing the "pop-up artist" program to offer space to allow artists to showcase and sell their work.
"Hopefully, the museum could be a permanent venue for the local artists," added Ducote.
