He won’t talk back at you. He’ll simply listen. This Japanese fisherman overlooks Steveston Harbour, just west of Britannia Heritage Shipyards, at the mid-point of the wooden boardwalk.
He sits there as a reminder of the hard, and sometimes deadly work, he and his fishing brothers endured at the turn of the 19th century and beyond to make Steveston into what it is today.
What sort of tales does this man have to tell us? What would he say of what is now behind him?
Park benches flank him on either side and if he could say anything, he would probably say, “have a seat, my friend, tell me what’s on your mind.”
