The annual Best of Richmond features individuals who live and/ or work in Richmond to help make it one of the best communities in which to live. This year the Richmond News interviewed 10:
Angela Soon has lived in Richmond since 1973. She went to Burnett Jr. High and Richmond High. She enjoys coordinating events, supporting small businesses and local farmers. She is passionate about Richmond's ecology and biodiversity and encourages everyone to appreciate nature, including the raccoons.
Now she is working as a community facilities programmer with the city of Richmond.
1. What do you like best in Richmond?
I like the variety of programs offered at all City of Richmond recreation facilities and parks.
2. How do you stay healthy in Richmond?
Exploring all the trails in Richmond keeps me fit.
3. What is your favorite natural area in Richmond?
The flora and fauna at the Richmond Nature Park that change through the seasons. Bog plants bloom in spring and Rufous Hummingbirds arrive from the south. When the long summer days are hot, the trails are perfect for a cool evening stroll. In autumn, squirrels are busy gathering pine cones for their seeds. The park sparkles beneath a blanket of snow that begs a winter walk.

5. Where in Richmond do you like to take out-of-town guests?
Terra Nova Rural Park is a great place for out-of-town guests to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and view wildlife such as bald eagles and great blue herons. For those with children, we plan a picnic at the Adventure Playground and look for a geocache or two.
6. What is one of Richmond's hidden gems?
Richmond has several hidden gems. Paulik Neighbourhood Park, which has huge trees, beautiful flowers, bee hives, public art and a community garden, is one of my favourite places. It is very peaceful.
