Richmond’s Hamilton neighbourhood can expect a new community garden soon.
The garden, managed by Urban Bounty, will have 29 plots along with two accessible plots for those with special needs at Hamilton Community Park between the basketball court and sports field.
Construction has begun and is expected to finish by the end of 2023, or early 2024.
The Hamilton community was invited to a consultation in May for their thoughts on potential community gardens in the neighbourhood.
“Based on a comprehensive study of the city’s community gardens and their access early this year, staff gained a better understanding of the existing service caps and needs,” said Grace Augustinowicz, community programs manager at Urban Bounty.
Discussions and consultations showed that Hamilton “is an underserved neighbourhood with a growing demand for community gardens,” she added.
Community members can submit an application for a garden plot on Urban Bounty’s website.
