With a giant hanging moon, a lotus pond with moving flowers, and hanging lanterns, Lansdowne Centre is getting ready to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the Richmond community this Saturday.
Visitors can take part in a riddle guessing game at the lantern station, a lacquer fan-making workshop, try on traditional Chinese costumes known as Hanfu, children's arts and crafts, take photos on the bridge with the lotus flowers and more on Sept. 14 from 12 to 4 p.m.
Activities are by donations with funds to benefit the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital Foundation to help with specialized adult health care and research in B.C.
There will also be chances for people to win prizes during the event.
“With our deep roots in Richmond, we always celebrate the cultural festivities with our communities," said Bronwyn Bailey, marketing manager at Lansdowne Centre.
"While admiring the brightest moon of the year – the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the year, I understand that it also symbolizes bountiful harvest and family reunion, which is kind of similar to Thanksgiving."
Saturday, Sept. 14 also marks Lansdowne Centre's 47th birthday during the event, explained Bailey.
"We also take this opportunity to support and give back to the community during our mall's birthday."
An artisan market will also be held at Lansdowne Centre on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with local vendors.
