From a toy drive to watching a fencing world cup, Richmondites have plenty to do this long weekend.
1. Annual RCMP Toy Drive for Richmond Christmas Fund
The 10th annual Richmond RCMP toy drive is collecting toys to help those underprivileged celebrate Christmas. Community members are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy or a minimum $10 donation. There will be activities, photos with Santa, a ball hockey game and photo ops with mascots.
Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Place: Lansdowne Centre near the Canada Line Station, 5300 No. 3 Rd.
2. Japanese-style fall festival
Anime Evolution is hosting its annual one-day Akimatsuri event at Richmond's KPU campus this weekend. The event, usually held in late fall, serves as a light version of the main convention based on the school, cultural and seasonal festivals held in Japan. It celebrates the changing of seasons. There will be panels, main events, tabletop gaming, artists and vendors.
Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Place: Kwantlen Polytechnic University Richmond campus, 8771 Lansdowne Rd.
3. Christmas craft fair
Steveston's annual Christmas Craft Fair returns with more than 100 vendors with handcrafted goods. The long-standing fair has been held to celebrate the winter holidays since 1983.
Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Place: Steveston Community Centre, 4111 Moncton St.
4. Christmas market
The Ukrainian Christmas Market is being held this weekend with delicious home baking, arts and crafts, Christmas decor and more.
Date and time: Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Place: Ukrainian Community Society of Ivan Franko, 5311 Francis Rd.
5. Fencing tournament
Watch the Vancouver Fencing World Cup 2024 of men's and women's teams and individual epee at the Richmond Oval this weekend. Around 500 athletes and attendees are expected each day of the event. In addition, the first of its kind BC Youth Provincials is also taking place during the same time as the world cup.
