A recent Richmond KidSport gala raised more than $130,000.
KidSport ambassador and Olympic race walker Evan Dunfee called the Feb. 28 gala “an overwhelming success.”
KidSport raises money to help pay for kids' sports registration fees.
The amount of money raised this year was a “significant increase” from previous galas, Dunfee told the Richmond News, but the need to support kids sports is also at a record high.
More than 250 people attended the gala at the Executive Hotel Vancouver Airport.
In addition to many corporate donations, the City of Richmond donated $24,000, bringing the total donated by the city since 2021 to $131,000.
In 2024, KidSport Richmond faced a 35-per-cent increase in requests and was able to help 506 kids pay for their registration fees.
April fundraiser aims to get people moving
A fundraiser in April called MOVE430 will also raise money for KidSport.
MOVE430 is a challenge for participants to be active for 30 minutes every day in April.
Anyone wanting to participate can register for $30 and log their activity - they will be eligible to win prizes.
