A Buddhist temple in Richmond recently completed its pledge to donate $50,000 to support acute care in Richmond.
Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple handed a $10,000 cheque to the Richmond Hospital Foundation on June 28, marking the final donation of a pledge it made five years ago.
The donations are in support of the Richmond Hospital Foundation's Act Now Campaign for the hospital's new acute care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion.
“We believe that a healthier community starts with thinking good thoughts, speaking good words, and doing good deeds,” said Venerable Chueh Chu, Abbess of the temple.
"With aging infrastructure and increased needs from the community, we recognize there are limitations in providing the best care for patients. We are happy to contribute to the new acute care tower, which will bring much-needed improvements to patient care and health care in Richmond.”
The temple and affiliated organizations have supported the Richmond Hospital Foundation for more than two decades.
New features at the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, set to replace the original Richmond Hospital tower that opened in 1966, will include a new emergency department, more operating rooms and a new medical imaging centre.
