Book sales by the Friends of the Richmond Library raised $45,000.

Friends of the Richmond Library (FOL) board of directors presented a cheque for $45,000 to the Richmond Public Library on Jan. 29.

The money was raised through the non-profit's 2024 book sales and will be used for Richmond library projects.

The used book sales continue in 2025. So far, two mini sales have been held at Cambie Library in January and February 2025, and the Friends' annual “Whale of a Book Sale” at Thompson Community Centre is scheduled for March 15 and 16.

The FOL used bookstore at 11590 Cambie Rd., just west of No. 5 Road, is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more information about the bookstore and the upcoming book sale.

A book sale doesn’t just happen, said board member Pat Ng.

“FOL appreciates and thanks all the dedicated and hard-working volunteers for the many hours to help sort and price all the donated items that come our way, and many more to set up and conduct each sale,” she added.

“Volunteering with FOL is an opportunity to support the local libraries and contribute to the community.”

Founded in 1972, Friends of the Richmond Library is a non-profit organization with the mission to advocate for and support library services and the freedom to read in Richmond.
