This week, Richmondites of all ages can get a close-up look at RCMP vehicles and officers at one of two Police Week events.
On Tuesday, May 14 at Hamilton Community Centre and Thursday, May 16 at City Centre Community Centre from 1 to 5 p.m. on both days, police officers will be on hand to give a little insight into what their jobs involve.
The free events are suitable for all ages. On Tuesday, visitors can see a police car, ATV and emergency vehicle. On Thursday, along with the police car and ATV, there will also be the RCMP safety bear for kids to experience.
Both days will also have information on crime prevention and block watches for parents.
According to an RCMP report to Richmond’s Community Safety Committee, police week began in 1970 “as a way to connect with communities and increase awareness regarding police services.” The event also aims to offer “police the opprortunity to highlight the importance of this role in the safety and security of Canada and Canadians, at home and abroad.”
