We all have dreams about what we want our life to look like and how our lives will be used while we are on this planet. But, if you really look back over your life, can you honestly say it has turned out the way you planned? For most of us, I would think not.
Take a moment to look back over your life and recall all the major experiences that have happened. Were they all planned? I came from Australia to live in Canada for two years and began my life in Toronto. I never planned to move to British Columbia. But I'm here, simply because life unfolded and led me in this direction.
I never planned to work in the field I work in. I never planned to be a widow, but I am. We forget life is living us and all we really need to do is to stop trying to force it into another direction.
There's a great quote from one of John Lennon's songs, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." It's interesting how life unfolds in ways we never anticipated and can be changed in a moment's notice.
Many of us ask, what am I to do with my life? Am I even in the driver's seat? I'm not saying we don't have a choice in the direction our lives take. We always have a choice, but have you ever noticed even when we do try to steer the ship in one direction, many times life unfolds in another way you had not planned?
The opportunity in those moments is to go with the flow of where life is taking you. Who knows? You may become pleasantly surprised when you let go and get out SIMPLE of the way of trying to make things happen. Instead, let the flow of life occur in a natural way on its own timeline.
Letting go and going with the flow can cause fear in people because it takes them into the unknown. As human beings, we want the details. We get caught up in the story of "me" and "my life," but our journey in life is bigger than our own personal story.
Life situations are put in front of us so we can grow and discover who we are. Changing circumstances provide the opportunity for us to look within to reveal what we all came here to discover.
The question is, do you go with the flow and let life guide you? Or, are you still trying to force it to happen, like fitting a square peg into a round hole? Pay attention and know there is more ease to life when you go with the flow, rather than resist it.
