McNair secondary school’s senior marketing students pinned down one of their school’s “hipster” teachers, Sean Corcoran, and buzzed his head for cancer research Tuesday afternoon.
The stunt was part of a fundraising event planned by their marketing teacher Randy Sangha, who explained students were able to apply their classroom skills to a more real-life setting.
“Marketing and business is generally about making a profit, but I also feel that it’s important to give back, and this is one way the class at McNair does so,” said Sangha.
This was the third year in a row the students have organized an event to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. In total, they’ve raised about $3,000, said Sangha.
“Cancer is something that touches us all. It’s good to give back to the community,” he said.
Aside from a good life lesson, students learn about aspects of non-profit groups, event planning and presentation skills.
A bit of hype and hoopla accompanied the head shave, as about 200 students packed the school foyer to watch barber Mo Raoof, from Alen’s Golden Scissors in Steveston, buzz Corcoran. Last year, principal Jason Leslie took to the chair for the cause.
