'Welcoming sanctuary': Minoru Lakes in Richmond recognized for excellence

The City of Richmond has revamped the two lakes at the city centre park.

Minoru Park and its “Lakes District” has won a Parks Excellence award for its recent renewal and rehabilitation.

The BC Recreation and Parks Association presented the City of Richmond with the award at last week’s annual symposium in Whistler.

The parks excellence award recognizes “outstanding design and development” of parks.

The Minoru Lakes area has recently been renewed with a rainwater-fed system, a habitat renewal plan, revitalized pathways, more accessibility features and an increased tree canopy.

“The Lakes District at Minoru Park beautifully illustrates how communities can preserve cherished spaces while evolving them for modern needs,” Katie Fenn, CEO of BCRPA, said in an announcement about the award.

“Through ecological innovation, inclusivity and strong community engagement, the City of Richmond has created a welcoming sanctuary that promotes health, connection and sustainability.”
