Return-It opens first-ever Express and Go recycling station in Steveston.

Richmond's first Express and Go recycling station officially opened in Steveston on Wednesday.

The new facility at 13191 No. 2 Rd. is operated by Return-It, in partnership with Steveston Harbour Authority, and aims to help make recycling refundable drink containers more convenient for residents.

To use the new Express and Go station, community members can create a free Express account at express.return-it.ca, place containers in a clear, sealed bag with a labelled tag, and drop them off at the station.

Refunds are processed within 10 business days by e-transfer or cheque, or donated to a local charity.

"Our shared goal is to make recycling easier and more convenient for everyone," said Cindy Cloutts, president and CEO of Return-It.

She added opening the new recycling station is a "significant step" to achieve the goal.

Mayor Malcolm Brodie said the city is proud to support sustainable practices to make recycling easier for residents.

"The new Express (and) Go station is a great addition to our city's recycling infrastructure, and we commend Return-It for their partnership approach," said Brodie.

Richmond's recycling station is the latest addition to the number of Return-It Express and Go stations implemented in the Lower Mainland.

This includes North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Coquitlam, UBC and SFU.
