Out and About: BC Culture Days in Richmond

BC Culture Days is part of a Canada-wide initiative for arts and culture.

Culture Days in Richmond got off to a rousing start this past weekend.

Richmond is an avid participant in BC Culture Days, part of a Canada-wide initiative.

For the 15th year, communities throughout Canada celebrate our cultural diversity with artistic displays and interactive events.

The range of activities runs from Sept. 20 to Oct. 13. Richmond is one of the biggest participants in Canada.

This year, our city is hosting more than 80 diverse digital and in-person events.

These multifaceted events included art exhibitions, the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, Canadian rock paintings, teddy bear repairs and quilting demonstrations by the Textile Art Guild of Richmond (TAGOR), pet portraits, printmaking, dance performances and dozens of others.

The Canadian Rock Paintings Association put on a wonderful display of its art and drew large crowds.

The teddy bear repair fair lent itself to photographs. Hosted by the Richmond Museum and Richmond Environmental Programs, this is an annual event.

When I dropped in, teddy bears were being restored to fitness by a team of fabric experts. Rips, tears and missing stuffing were sewed, stitched up and restuffed.

Many of the activities take place in and around the Cultural Centre.
