An essential sewer upgrade is well underway on Gilbert Road.
Richmondites will have noticed a new look for this major thoroughfare as the major construction project has been ongoing for months.
Drivers and their passengers can catch glimpses of the work as their vehicles carefully and slowly move through the roadway under the guidance of traffic control persons.
As of the weekend, temporary paving is down and traffic is moving both ways.
The Metro Vancouver sewer requires enlargement because of current and anticipated population growth.
This major sewer transports most of Richmond’s sanitary sewage to the Lulu Island Wastewater Island Treatment Plant where it is safely treated.
This new line will run south, next to the existing pipe beneath Gilbert Road.
The construction, when complete, will make for easier maintenance while it increases capacity as Richmond continues to grow.
The entire long-term project is expected to be completed by 2025.
