Out and About: Richmond resident explores Granville Island

A place many tourists visit for food and art

One of the first impressions while walking about Granville Island is the large number of languages spoken.

Granville Island seems to be on the to-do list for many of the thousands of tourists who visit Vancouver.

The site also draws regular customers from Richmond and elsewhere in the Lower Mainland.

The large market is one of the main reasons for visiting. It is a foodie's heaven, with a huge variety of high-quality food choices for both immediate consumption and home kitchens.

All of the fruits, vegetables, breads, meats and fish bring in consumers who want to plan dinners or immediately eat the products.

The huge diversity of restaurants and shopping options is a reflection of the many cultural influences that make our West Coast an interesting place to live — and eat.

The shops on the Island largely feature locally made products and artistic creations.

There is also a theatre that provides live performances.

All in all, the island is a great place for a staycation.

Visitor tip: parking is easiest on weekday mornings and public transit is a good alternative for those who live near a transit route.
