Photos: 600 pumpkins appear on Richmond school field

Celebrating Halloween with its own pumpkin patch.

A Richmond elementary school suddenly saw 600 pumpkins appear on its field on Thursday morning.

But as spooky as that sounds, it is actually the work of Anderson elementary’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) that brought the pumpkin patch to its students.

This is the school’s third year of creating its own pumpkin patch after students were unable to visit Richmond Country Farms during the pandemic, explained Anderson elementary principal Sean Harrington.

“Originally started to help address the implications of our world during COVID, the pumpkin patch has continued, as it brings joy and Halloween fun for our students,” said Harrington.

“It’s a beautiful day and we get to see the kids happy this morning as they’re picking their pumpkins. It’s great they can celebrate the season with their classmates.”

The annual tradition couldn’t be done without the hard work and dedication of parents and PAC, he added.

Pumpkin patch coordinator CC Leung said she looks forward to seeing the field full of pumpkins and kids running through it just before the Halloween festivities every year.

“By bringing the pumpkin patch to school, students are able to celebrate the season with their classmates and possibly integrate the pumpkin into their classroom learning,” said Leung, a parent at the school, adding they appreciate working with Richmond Country Farms to celebrate Halloween.
